Nearly 500 citizens of Connecticut died from the asbestos-related diseases Mesothelioma and asbestosis during the 1979 to 1999 time period. Mesothelioma is deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestosis is scarring of the lungs attributed to the inhalation of asbestos fibers.
The following table is compiled from Connecticut data developed by the EWG Action Fund. Three Connecticut counties - Hartford, New London and Fairfield - accounted for more than half of the asbestos-related deaths. Any county not listed did not report any deaths.
The EWG site lists a range of deaths while this site is only reporting the lower figure.
