Rachel A. Placitella, a member with the law firm of Cohen, Placitella & Roth recently negotiated the settlements of two New Jersey residents: a 55-year-old client of Vineland, NJ., who was awarded a $3,725,000 settlement in October 2009, and a 75-year-old client, who is a resident of North Jersey, who has awarded a $3,333,500 settlement in September of this year. Both were exposed to an asbestos-containing product at their work sites.
One client, an active and gainfully employed 55-year-old man, along with his attorney, Rachel Placitella, sued the manufacturers of asbestos-containing products which he used in his profession as an electrician, in addition to the manufacturers of asbestos-containing products used during construction projects, for liability for the asbestos-related illness, known as mesothelioma, which he was diagnosed with in January 2008.
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and is the most fatal of all asbestos-related diseases.
"I am grateful that I was able to help such a kind hearted and wonderful family. My clients are very satisfied with this settlement," said attorney Rachel Placitella, in regards to her client. "He is a fighter and continues to battle this dreadful disease."
Another client, an active and gainfully employed 75-year-old North Jersey carpenter, whom specialized in the installation of ceilings in commercial applications, had reportedly been in perfect health prior to his diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma. In this case, the manufacturers of asbestos-containing products which he used or were used by other tradesmen in his immediate vicinity were sued in addition to the worksites throughout the State of New Jersey where he worked.
According to attorney Rachel Placitella, "I am grateful for the opportunity to help my client and his family during their darkest time when he is battling mesothelioma."
Both settlements came in on the eve of trial.
